“I Like My Style” in their favorite outfits, more or less strategically staged. Here fashion is what fashion should be – an intimate statement by way of self-expression. Here it is not about trends, but about personal style.
Aiko of California presents her hippie look, Luica from DTown shows his new shopping outfit, and Joko from Berlin lives out his strip fetish. With “I Like My Style,” fashion fans come together from all over the world - and are remarkably kind to one another. Trying to look proper is in vain for “I Like My Style,” because the fashion police have not shown up. Instead overproduced glossy photos meet authentic, if not slightly blurred, glimpses into private worlds of fashion.
ABOUT — Honestly Adriano: Can one "Style" in order to learn how to classically style, or is it something you’re born with?
ADRIANO SACK — Style is like snowboarding, writing, or sex: There are the exceptionally talented, but an ordinary skill can be learned through hard work and dedication. I think the innate sense of style is a myth. People who dress well perhaps began doing so at a younger age, or have grown up in the right home. In any case, continuous training is important: Even eyes can relax and style is not fixed, but dynamic.
A — How did you come up with the idea to bring “I Like My Style" to the net?
AS — I had the feeling that the Internet was becoming the largest catwalk in the world. As a social network for the fashion conscious, it seemed somewhat obvious.
Quest editor-in-chief Adriano Sack, 41, made the "social network for the fashion-conscious" online in early 2008 and obviously hit heart of the moment. Three hundred thousand visitors are inspired here month after month.
About asks Adriano to explain why his idea on the Web has become a successful forum for individuality.
A — Do you have a psychological explanation for why "I Like My Style" and similar sites are so popular? Why do so many people enjoy showcasing their personality and style on the net?
AS — There’s a girl on our site wearing a T-shirt that says "I am popular.” It’s charming and brazen, but also expresses an ancient dream of mankind. The need for awareness and recognition is nothing new, but the stage has changed. Access has become easier, and it’s changed our understanding of privacy.
"At first, the navel being airbrushed out is captivating as a clear indication of alienation. The makeshift space helmet is like an album cover, which is both lucid and nostalgic. Koeque seems to belong to that species, like Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth in a lecture on David Bowie called the "bedroom aliens."

"A visibly contented man with a beard in a state bed of the Hotel Negresco in Nizza. Everything is wrong in this scene. The gently flowing light of the Cote d'Azur, the pink wallpaper and the angels on the bedpost. Thus, the Paradise looks like one might imagine Elton John. "

"I like what she’s wearing and her Vivienne Westwood bag seems to be really important. But more important is her posture. She is withdrawn, or lost in her headphones. She both ignores the camera and stands before it. It’s the same way Miles Davis likes playing with his back to the audience."

"The two boys are partially cut out, and each can see out of the frame in different ways. The girl is the singer, because she obviously has the most volume of the three in the band, wears the most important message on her T-shirt. Also, she looks so sad. And a little bit angry."

"I am biased on this one. MKNYC is a very close friend, and the Fendi furs were borrowed from the artist Terence Koh, whom I adore. I would not even call this look decadent, but boundless in the best sense.”
